On your group's travels to these plantations, you will enjoy a scenic drive down beautiful John Tyler Highway, and will experience 18th and 19th century surroundings in the lush beauty of these acres-wide plantations.  Each offers its own unique brand of dining and entertainment, as well as the visual pleasure of the surroundings.  Sterling will work with you to determine the best venue for your group.

Evelynton Plantation - Built in 1847, this 2,500 acre plantation has seen many Civil War skirmishes, including the famous Battle of Evelynton Heights;  today, it occupies a much more peaceful corner of the world, occupying a place on the National Register of Historic Places.  Today, it is family-owned and operated, offers`` wonderful tours, and can be made available for corporate events.

Berkeley Plantation - Built in 1726, sitting on ten acres of land,  Berkeley, the birthplace of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a United States President, is considered Virginia's most historic plantation.  Berkeley sits on a beautiful hilltop overlooking the James River, and is the oldest three-story brick house in Virginia that can prove its date.  Among its beauties is a ten-acre formally landscaped boxwood garden extending a quarter-mile from the front door toward the river.  Berkeley's Coach House Tavern offers a wonderful dining experience.

Shirley Plantation - The oldest plantation in Virginia, Shirley was settled in 1613, six years after the settlement of Jamestown Colony.  This 800 acre plantation was begun in 1723 and completed in 1738, and is largely in its original state.  Shirley Plantation displays four brick outbuildings, forming a Queen Anne forecourt, believed to be the only remaining example in America of this style.  Shirley survived many fierce Civil War battles, and now is more peaceably available for corporate events.

Westover Plantation - Built around 1730 by William Byrd II, founder of Richmond, this beautifully lush plantation is known for its secret passages to escape from the Indians, magnificent gardens, and architectural detail.  The grounds and garden are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, boasting 150-year-old tulip poplars surrounding the main house.  The house is not open to the public at this time.  Excellent dining options abound here.

Indian Fields Tavern - Located on Route 5, Charles City, in the heart of Plantation Country, this renovated turn-of-the-century farmhouse offers critically acclaimed menus and fresh ingredients. They boast of offering "fine Southern hospitality in a relaxed, refined setting" and they live up to this promise.  Stop by here after you tour the beautiful James River plantations, and enjoy another kind of beauty.
